Chapter Seventeen

Bright and early, Ian was knocking at my door before I’d barely turned on the coffee maker. He entered and planted himself on the couch before I could even get the door closed again, Snowflake held against his chest.

“‘Morning, Snowy… Ian,” I said to the pair of them.

“Good morning! Good news!”

“You’ve got our murderer?” Although it was a joke, there was a small, tiny, hopeful part of me that would have welcomed an early closure to the case. Even if it did mean it was my assistant that figured it out instead of me.

“Not yet. But we’re getting there, aren’t we, Snowy?” The little white cat gave a confirmatory meow. She knew what was up.

“What have you found?”

“Two of the girls, women, who accompanied Bull on his digs. Former students. They’ve both graduated now.”

“Just two?”

“There are a few more, but these two are in Las Vegas. There’s a woman who’s in Italy now at grad school and then another who’s joined the Peace Corps and is in, like, I don’t know… one of the Stans. Somewhere in Central Asia. But two of them are here in Vegas!”

“Excellent. Have you arranged meetings with them?”

“Not yet.”

“While I get dressed, why don’t you get us some breakfast and then arrange meetings with them both.”

Snowflake answered with a meow before Ian could.

“Thank you, Snowy.”

Leaving them to it, I went to get ready.
